Dazed by the number of free e-card websites on the internet? We were, until we started sorting out the wheat from the chaff.
The websites listed below are what we consider to be amongst the best; from sites that do video e-cards to ones that provide stunning postcard images. And also sites that are just a little bit unusual and off the wall. So in fact there is something here for all tastes.

Miniclip Clipart

Animated e-cards from the games company Miniclip. Original and imaginative. You can send these cards in the normal way by inserting the email address in an online form or, if you don't like leaving email addresses online, you can send it direct from your own email client - the email simply contains a link to the page where your card is held. You can also send via Hotmail, Yahoo etc.
MoMA E Cards

MoMA stands for the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and they have hundreds of e-cards featuring paintings, photography, drawings, plus film and video, that you can send for free. Each card is accompanied by brief biographical details.
Nature Postcards

The cards, though there are not many of them, are outstanding, and many of them are interactive.

As the name suggests, all the postcards here have a physics flavour, from space images to pictures of Einstein himself, all with an Einstein quotation. Physlink is a physics and astronomy webzine.

Wide and diverse collection of cards (more than 1600 to choose from), including flash animations and still images. If you want you can upload your own image and send that as an e-card. And just in case you are no good at remembering dates, you can send cards up to 14 months in advance and they will deliver it for you on the date you choose! They provide email reminders and you can also create a personal address book with them so you don't have to keep filling in the details every time you send a card.
The recipient receives an email which directs them to the website where they can view the card and message and also send a thankyou note. Cards are kept on the website for just 3-4 weeks and 7-10 days after pick up at which time they get deleted.
If you want to keep the card simply click the file menu on your browser and save the page as "webpage complete".

The Nature Conservancy

Free postcards from Nature Conservancy, which is a US charity working on nature conservancy projects in Asia and the Americas. They offer a great selection of stunning wildlife images, including animals, flowers and landscapes, plus you can also download some great wallpaper for your desktop, take part in quizzes, or watch some amazing videos.

A very good selection of ecards, with some still photographs but nearly all animated ecards. There is a variety of styles of card for all sorts of occasions. And there is no limit on how much you can write! There are even styles in the form of stationery so what you send looks like a letter.

Well, they are really e-postcards but great images nonetheless. And as you can guess from the sample shown here, most of the cards have a message of some sort on them - search through the images to find one with a message that fits.
