Dazed by the number of free e-card websites on the internet? We were, until we started sorting out the wheat from the chaff.
The websites listed below are what we consider to be amongst the best; from sites that do video e-cards to ones that provide stunning postcard images. And also sites that are just a little bit unusual and off the wall. So in fact there is something here for all tastes.
One or two of the sites are a little advertising heavy, with the occasional pop up window (yeah, we know that's annoying), but we have chosen to include these particular websites because of the quality of the cards on offer.

Outstanding! These e-cards are so good that I could scarcely believe they are free - so I sent one and they are! And you can add photos, music and text.
The reason HDGreeetings is able to offer this service is that it produces paid for customised marketing solutions for companies the free e-cards are a kind of shop front for their merchandising business.
Highly recommended.
The recipient receives an email
with a web link to click. You can also send and receive your cards in Facebook.
Plans are afoot to make it so that the cards can be saved as a video file - you will then be able to keep them for as long as you like.

Although this website is a little heavy on the advertising (lots of pop up windows) there is a very good choice of free e-cards here, mostly flash or animated, ready for you to personalise with as many words as you like. Plus you can send the same card to up to 100 people at the same time and choose the date you want it sent on. There are cards for most occasions, and many, though not all, of the cards are of a rather "cute" style - perfect for letting someone know you care. You can even send you own images as e-cards, although you do have to have the image located on a website.
If the recipient wants to keep the card, they should simply click the file menu on their browser and save the page as "webpage complete".

The worlds largest poster and art print store. You can send any one of their 100,000 images (yes, that's right, 100,000) as a free personalised e-card. That's a lot of choice! Just click on the image you like and you will see an option on the right hand side to send as an e-card. Click this and you can add a personal message.
Recipients are sent a web link to view the card which is kept on their servers for 30 days.

Great selection of flash movie cards from All Yours, plus wallpapers, screensavers and postcards. Pretty good quality. And you can also customise you email nitification and choose when to have the card sent (you get organise it up to 2 months in advance). Cards are deleted 4 weeks after delivery.

This is part of the website of the TV channel, Animal Planet. There are not a lot of images here, but what they do have is good. Cards include animal sounds and a brief description of the animal. You can personalise the actual card itself by adding a title, a stamp and an accompanying personal message.

We love this website. Not a great number of cards (around 60 ish at the time of writing) but all are very well done and funny. All the cards have been made by Martine Carlsen herself, so you won't see them on any other website. You can even design your own congratulations ecard.

For nature lovers out there, here is a selection of nature postcards, including: Birds, Mammals, Nature's Garden, Beautiful Butterflies, Night Sky, Under the Sea, Weird & Wonderful and Winter Animals. Each card, and we like this, is accompanied by a name plus species information for plants and animals. Very nice.
The eNature website is positively stuffed full of information about the plants and animals of the US covering around 6000 individual species and in addition offers screensavers, contests and quizzes. There are also flash cards such as this one, Abert's Towhee, that you can put onto your own website.

Wide and diverse collection of cards (more than 1600 to choose from), including flash animations and still images. If you want you can upload your own image and send that as an e-card. And just in case you are no good at remembering dates, you can send cards up to 14 months in advance and they will deliver it for you on the date you choose! They provide email reminders and you can also create a personal address book with them so you don't have to keep filling in the details every time you send a card.
The recipient receives an email which directs them to the website where they can view the card and message and also send a thankyou note. Cards are kept on the website for just 3-4 weeks and 7-10 days after pick up at which time they get deleted.
If you want to keep the card simply click the file menu on your browser and save the page as "webpage complete".

The Nature Conservancy

Free postcards from Nature Conservancy, which is a US charity working on nature conservancy projects in Asia and the Americas.
